SOME 4,000 delegates from more than 80 countries are expected to take part in the World Congress & Innovation Technology 2022 (WCIT 2022) at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang on Sept 13-15.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said he hoped that the event would help boost the tourism-related businesses in the state.
“These delegates are our potential high-yield prospects and investors who can come back to Penang for the purpose of leisure and business.
“So, it is important for us to continue with our formula of tourism excellence to ensure that they return to Penang to enjoy its culture, heritage and local delicacies.
“We are also expecting a high occupancy rate up to 95% at tourist spots as well as stalls and eateries.
“Thus, we call upon the tourism stakeholders to plan to seize this golden opportunity,” Yeoh said during the briefing session with the tourism agencies and associations recently.
Meanwhile, National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) chairman Dr Sean Seah said the congress would contribute to Penang’s and Malaysia’s economy as a whole.
“Through this event, we can showcase our talents, technology and hospitality to the international investors as Malaysia is said to be the heart of the digital Asean region,” he added.
