FIVE of the Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) athletes did remarkably well at the recently concluded Beijing International Marathon.
Surpassing expectations, each athlete delivered a strong performance, with one runner even smashing his personal best by finishing the marathon in under three hours yesterday (Nov. 3).
Despite limited preparation time, the PFSC athletes rose to the occasion and achieved impressive times. PFSC chairman Lim Choo Hooi clocked in at 3:27, Alvin Lee at 3:09 (personal best), Danny Quah at 3:21 (personal best), Calvin Boon at 3:34, and Tan Yu Hoong at 2:58 (personal best).
Reflecting on the event, Choo Hooi shared that all the runners gained valuable insights into marathon running through their participation in the international event.
“All of us are very satisfied with the results, especially considering the limited preparations since we received the invitation from the China Overseas Chinese Public Welfare Foundation only a month ago. We hope this healthy sports exchange will strengthen our ties with our counterparts in China,” he told Buletin Mutiara.
In addition to the marathon, the five athletes also took part in a 5km fun run organised by the China Overseas Chinese Public Welfare Foundation.
During the event, Choo Hooi, who is also the Penang Chinese Town Hall secretary, exchanged pleasantries with foundation officials, further fostering goodwill between the two organisations.
