THE Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) was highly praised by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow for their contribution to society and its support for the Penang2030 vision.
Chow, who attended PFSC’s 36th-anniversary dinner at the Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH) tonight, said PFSC played its part by helping the needy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that PFSC also played a big role in the success of the ‘LovePENANG Run’ last month by co-organising it with the Penang State Sports Council (PSSC).
“Ten thousand people participated, and it was the biggest crowd ever for a sports event in Penang post-Covid,” Chow said during his speech.
“The involvement of the multi-racial community in the LovePENANG Run was in line with the efforts to revitalise the social life of the people in the state after the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We believe that sports can unite the community. The sports arena will continue to remain as a platform and be the best foundation in fostering and strengthening unity among the races, in addition to shaping the progress and development of athletes.”
PFSC, which was established in the 80s, is now a renowned club with a string of achievements, including producing many quality athletes.
Also present were Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee, consul-general of Thailand in Penang Rashada Jiwalai, Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) chairman Lim Choo Hooi, PFSC permanent adviser Datuk Tom Khoo and Penang Chinese Town Hall (PCTH) chairman Tan Sri Tan Khoon Hai.
Lim said PFSC did not stop functioning even though the Covid-19 pandemic hit Malaysia over the past two years.
He also thanked the state government for giving the club its full support.
Tan said he was happy to see the club members being so enthusiastic and full of energy at the dinner.
He expressed his gratitude and admiration for the hard work of each Forward team member and set a good example for the younger generation.
Plaques were presented to a few club officials who were recently bestowed state awards by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and cash incentives were also given to athletes who shone for the club.
