Penang govt appreciates MPKKs

THE Penang government recognises the sacrifices and hardwork by the Village Community Management Councils (MPKKs) in assisting the community during the Covid-19 crisis.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow conveyed this during the ‘Covid-19 Green Community’ award presentation ceremony held at the Jen Hotel today.

 

“The state government hopes that the teamwork will continue so as to ensure the well-being of the community at the grassroot level.

 

“I would like to urge the MPKKs, which are the eyes and ears of the state government, to stay committed and work together with the state representatives to address community issues.

 

“The wants and needs of the community need to be studied and refined before coming up with suggestions and decisions.

 

“I would like to also congratulate the organising committee for making this programme a success,” Chow said in his speech at the event.

The Kampung Melayu Village Community Management Council (MPKK) who emerged as the champion took home RM20,000 and a winner trophy.

The ‘Covid-19 Green Community Zone’ was organised by the office of Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman.

The second place went to Chai Leng Park MPKK who was rewarded with RM10,000 and a winner trophy.

 

Meanwhile, Kampung Datok MPKK secured third placing and bagged RM5,000 prize money and a trophy.

 

Two consolation awards were presented to Padang Lalang MPKK and Gertal Sanggul MPKK. They won RM1,000 each.

 

The top five winners were also given a certificate each.

 

A total of 24 MPKKs participated in the competition.

 

Earlier, Chow congratulated Lebuh Chulia MPKK for emerging as champion for the Covid-19 Green Community Award which was organised by the Ministry of Rural Development.

 

The team was awarded with a RM50,000 grant as a development fund.

 

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zakiyuddin lauded the MPKKs for playing a pivotal role in disseminating useful information to the local community during the pandemic.
