THE Penang government is committed to continuing its green mobility initiatives through the Penang2030 vision.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow made this announcement during the launching of an electric vehicle (EV) truck at Lava Mansion in George Town today.
“Our green mobility initiative also prioritises and supports investment to enhance resilience and establish Penang as a leader in promoting zero-emission mobility.
“Under my leadership, the state government has been at the forefront of driving sustainable initiatives contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
“Our state, parallel to the Federal Government’s call, welcomes and supports local and foreign industries in undertaking sustainable approaches to reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy.
“Thus, the launch of this EV truck coincides with our push for a greener future,” said Chow in his speech.
According to Chow, the state government is also committed to providing more EV charging stations in Penang.
“As an example, a collaboration between the state government, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) and Penang Green Council (PGC) have resulted in the installation of complimentary electric motorcycle charging stations in strategic locations across Penang.
“Additionally, the state has also encouraged private entities to instal EV charging stations within their buildings or facilities to ease charging EVs within the state.
“With this in place, we are aiming to reduce Penang’s carbon footprint by 50% by 2030,” he added.
Speaking about the programme, Chow said the EV truck is a collaboration between Scan Global Logistics and HTH Corporation.
“By uniting strengths, both HTH and Scan Global Logistics can drive the green economy transition efficiently and effectively.
“This vehicle represents not only a technological advancement but also a step towards reducing our carbon footprints and fostering sustainable trade practices,” he said.
Also present during the launching ceremony were Penang Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, HTH Corporation chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chin Heng and Scan Global Logistics chief executive officer (Asian region) Rickard Ingvarsson.
