Penang govt helps NGO to instal a lift in its building

THE Penang government today has allocated RM50,000 to assist Ang Si Chong Soo Province Wellesley to instal a lift in its building.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the special fund for a lift at the building is important for the elderly and disabled people to use the facilities that are located on the first and second floors of the association building.

“Currently, the association building does not have a lift and it has inconvenienced its members, especially the elderly and the disabled people to go to the upper floor by using the stairs.

 

“The first and second floors contain several facilities such as a library, meeting room and a prayer hall that are frequently used by the members and the public.

 

“Apart from the RM50,000 allocation from the state government, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has also given out a RM20,000 allocation for that purpose.

 

“The Penang government is always committed to assisting the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state so that they can continue to help the community,” Chow said in his speech during his visit to the association building at Taman Segar in Butterworth today.

 

Also present were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Lim and Ang Si Chong Soo Province Wellesley chairman Ang Chor Ghee.

 

Ang also expressed his utmost gratitude and appreciation to the Penang government, Lim and good Samaritans who helped the association instal a lift in its building.

“The cost of the lift is about RM400,000.

 

“Apart from the contributions from the state government and the Bagan MP, we also received some donations from the public and the total collection enabled us to start installing the new lift.

 

“The construction works have started today and it is expected to be completed before the end of this year.

 

“Once completed, the lift can accommodate up to 11 people at any one time and thus helping our members and the public to go to the first and second floors easily,” he said.
