KNOWN for its lush greenery, rich agricultural industry, and deep cultural heritage, Balik Pulau has long been a peaceful retreat from the bustling city.
Surrounded by mountains and fresh air, it has become a sought-after destination for urban residents looking for a balance between modernity and nature.
In recent years, with Penang’s rapid development, Balik Pulau has emerged as a key area for urban-rural integration, green development, and cultural preservation.
Recognising its potential, the Penang government has actively invested in infrastructure projects to enhance the quality of life for local residents.
Representing Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the Chinese New Year celebration in Balik Pulau, Penang Youth, Sports, and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen highlighted the importance of robust infrastructure in driving sustainable economic growth and enhancing public welfare.
“The state government has given equal attention to Balik Pulau, ensuring that its infrastructure is on par with George Town and other parts of the state,” he said.
He further noted that a major milestone in Balik Pulau’s development is the upcoming establishment of its first private hospital, which will significantly enhance healthcare accessibility for local residents.
Selgate Corp Sdn Bhd, through its healthcare arm, Selgate Healthcare Sdn Bhd, has reportedly signed a development and lease agreement with MTT Properties and Development Sdn Bhd to establish a private specialist hospital in Balik Pulau, Penang.
The hospital is targeted to be ready by 2028.
Daniel reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for local residents through continuous development efforts.
Meanwhile, Chow’s special coordinating officer Gooi Seong Kin expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for organising the Chinese New Year celebration dinner for the residents of Balik Pulau.
He also extended his appreciation to the organising committee members for their dedication and hard work in making the event a success.
Among those present were former Berapit state lawmaker Datuk Wong Hang Yoke, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Lee Wei Seang, and former MBPP councillors Edward Tan and Quah Boon Lim.
