PENANG has consistently led the way in preserving and celebrating its rich cultural diversity, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow remarked.
He made the statement while attending the annual Deepavali Open House hosted by the Penang government at the SJKC Han Chiang school hall today.
“The Penang government remains committed to embracing and promoting cultural diversity as it reflects our harmonious society and demonstrates our respect for people’s beliefs and traditions.
“Deepavali has been a significant celebration in Malaysia for many years.
“It provides an opportunity for everyone, irrespective of race or religion, to reflect on the triumph of good over evil,” Chow said.
Chow expressed his delight at the large turnout for the event, noting the presence of distinguished guests, including Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his consort, Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor.
He also extended his gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo and his team for leading this year’s Deepavali Open House.
Guests enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes and were treated to vibrant, high-energy performances by well-known dance groups and singers from Penang.
