THE appointment list of new councillors for the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) will be tabled in the next state executive council meeting.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the matter would be discussed in the upcoming meeting on Jan 8.
“It was supposed to be tabled yesterday (Jan 1) but because it fell on a public holiday, the meeting had to be postponed.
“Penang has been the earliest state to announce its appointment of new local councillors over the past 10 years.
“Hence, the rumours claiming that the state government is having some problems regarding the appointment list is not true.
“As a matter of fact, we already have the complete list,” Chow told reporters after officiating the ‘Eye on Jetties’ photo exhibition at Jetty 35 in Weld Quay, George Town today.
He said that the swearing-in ceremonies for MBPP councillors would take place on Jan 10 (Friday), and for MBSP councillors on Jan 11 (Saturday).
Last year, both MBPP and MBSP had 24 councillors each.
Their 18-month mandate officially ended on Dec 31 last year.
