THE Penang government continues its tradition of appreciating the media industry in Penang.
Despite a long and busy schedule, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow visited the media companies in the state and distributed mandarin oranges and face masks to the media practitioners.
He was present together with his team of state executive council members, parliamentarians, and state assemblymen.
The distribution of mandarin oranges was made in view of the Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 1.
Among those present were state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Senator Lim Hui Ying, Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee and Jawi assemblyman H’ng Mooi Lye.
The first stop was the Star Media Group’s northern office in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, where the team was welcomed by Star Media Group Berhad (SMG) news editor Alex Teng.
The entourage had breakfast that was prepared by the company, and they toured the Editorial Department.
Alex briefed the team about the role of the Editorial Department. Those present also took part in the yee sang tossing ceremony.
Chow and his team then visited six Chinese media companies, namely, China Press, Nanyang Siang Pau, Kwong Wah Yit Poh, Guang Ming Daily, Sin Chew Daily and Oriental Daily.
The chief minister had a fruitful conversation with China Press northern region manager Law Wei Pin, Nanyang’s northern region bureau chief Tan Hu Chuan, Kwong Wah’s editor-in-chief Lim Seong Eng, Guang Ming Daily chief editor T.K. Tan, Sin Chew Daily senior regional manager Puah Eu Peng and Oriental’s bureau chief Ooi Yee Hoon during the visit.
Besides that, Chow, and his team also visited Bernama, RTM Penang and Media Prima Berhad.
They were welcomed by Bernama Penang bureau chief Teng Khoon Hock, RTM Penang director Norfadzilah Hashim and New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad marketing, corporate communications, and sales support general manager Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman.
The entourage had lunch at Media Prima Berhad in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah at the end of its visit.
