THE Penang government will soon announce appropriate assistance for flood victims across the state.
State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the special assistance would be extended to all flood victims in the north, central and south Seberang Perai districts.
“This matter will be discussed within the next few days.
“I will bring this matter to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to determine the kind of assistance that we can provide. After that, we will make an announcement.
“Rest assured, the state government cares for the affected families and victims,” Lim told a press conference during her visit to the SK Lahar Yooi Flood Relief Centre (PPS) today.
According to Lim, as of noon today, about 650 victims from 170 families have been placed in nine PPS in the north, central and south Seberang Perai districts in Penang due to the flash floods that happened on Sept 17.
It is learnt that 120 families, comprising 484 victims, were housed in four PPS in north Seberang Perai, while in central Seberang Perai, 30 families, totalling 125 victims, were placed in four PPS. In south Seberang Perai, 20 families, consisting of 41 victims, were accommodated in one PPS.
The Malaysian Meteorology Department (MetMalaysia) earlier issued a continuous rain warning for four states – Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak – which is expected to last until Sept 21.
