SEVERAL measures will be taken to address the low water level at the Air Itam Dam, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“I will be having a meeting with the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer (K. Pathmanathan) to discuss the measures to be taken to control the situation.
“Firstly, it would be by implementing cloud seeding; then secondly by reducing water usage.
“The third one is by arranging water supply from other water resources such as the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant and Telok Bahang Dam to ensure that the low water level situation at the Air Itam Dam can be controlled,” Chow said during a press conference held at the Light Hotel.
Expressing hope for rain to alleviate the situation, Chow emphasised the need for proactive steps to manage water resources effectively.
Chow was at the Light Hotel to attend the Smart Agriculture & Food Manufacturing Conference, which was organised by InvestPenang and supported by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang Branch, Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
It is learned that the water capacity at the Air Itam Dam is at 35.4 % as of today (time of reporting).
The Air Itam Dam supplies water to households in Air Itam, Paya Terubong, and the surrounding areas, with around 30,000 consumers.
