THE Penang government is working closely with the state Health Department to ensure the Covid-19 situation in the state is brought under control.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow admitted the need to address the constraints of home quarantine, Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC), low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres and hospital wards.
He said it was important for the health authorities to look into these constraints.
“The state and state Health Department are ready to provide any assistance that is needed.
“The state also values the concerns posed by some other elected representatives on the difficulties facing the people in this challenging time.
“We hope these difficulties that the people are facing can be eased as we do not want to see the spike in Covid-19 cases and brought-in-dead (BID) cases,” Chow said after visiting the screening and wearing of pink wristband centre in Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) stadium in Jalan Betek, Bukit Mertajam today.
The centre will be operating until December this year.
Dr Suraya Idris, who is the central Seberang Perai district health office medical officer, said the screening and wearing of pink wristband previously took place at Berapit.
“However, due to congestion, we had applied for the council’s permission to use its stadium for these purposes.
“More than 300 people, including walk-ins, are coming for the screening today,” she said.
Also present were Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, Padang Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng, Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang.
