THE Penang government has praised the state Health Department for handling the Covid-19 outbreak well.

Penang Health, Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said that strict monitoring could be seen at entry points in the state, including the Penang International Airport (PIA) and port terminals.

“There is no Covid-19 case in Penang so far and continuous monitoring must be done to prevent it from spreading here.

“We advise the people to take precautionary measures – to wear face masks, use hand sanitizers and to wash their hands frequently – to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he told a press conference after attending the state health clinic panel advisor convention in Komtar today.

The convention was held to showcase the initiatives taken by the panel members in growing a healthier community in the state.

As of now, Malaysia has recorded seven new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases from 29 to 36. Twenty-two Covid-19 patients have recovered from the infection.

Dr Afif said that the Covid-19 cases in South Korea had soared to over 4,000 cases; describing the situation, beyond the epicentre of the outbreak, as serious.

“Travellers must be extra vigilant when they travel. We hope that a vaccine can be produced soon to address the Covid-19 infection,” he added.
