Penang Health Department urges precautionary measures against dengue spread

ONE locality in Penang has been listed as a hotspot for dengue cases in Penang. Taman Sri Pinang in George Town has documented 15 cases of dengue fever as of April 23 this year, including a new case reported in the 17th Epidemiological Week (ME17).

 

With added concern, the Penang Health Department took to its Facebook page to underscore the presence of four areas experiencing uncontrolled dengue outbreaks in the state. These areas include Taman Nirwana (B), Taman Pelangi Flat Zone C, Kampung Tok Konan, and Jalan Kota Permai, all situated in central Seberang Perai.

 

Meanwhile, 14 areas in Penang were seeing controlled dengue outbreaks during the ME17.

The statement highlighted that 80 active dengue cases were reported in the state in the 16th Epidemiological Week (ME16) during the April 14 to 20 period. The breakdown was as follows – northeast district (17 cases), southwest district (eight cases), north Seberang Perai (eight cases), central Seberang Perai (27 cases), and south Seberang Perai (20 cases).

 

The department also stressed that 19 dengue cases were recorded during ME17 (from April 21 to 23 latest). The southwest district did not record any active cases, while the northeast district recorded five cases. Other districts include north Seberang Perai (two cases), central Seberang Perai (eight cases), and south Seberang Perai (four cases).

 

No dengue-related deaths were reported during this period.

 

The state Health Department has advised the public to take precautionary measures to combat the spread of dengue fever.
