IT was a double celebration atop Penang Hill on Sept 24 as some 5000 people of all races gathered there to mark Malaysia Day and also to celebrate the Lantern Festival.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who was ecstatic to be at the event said “I would like to congratulate all those involved in making this celebration possible. I am very proud to see the multiracial gathering here tonight at the highest peak of Penang to make this celebration a success. This proves that the people of Penang have and always will be united as Malaysians.”

This was the third year Malaysia Day and the Lantern Festival were celebrated at the top of the cool and serene Penang Hill.

The starting of the celebrations proved the unity of Malaysians in Penang as the sounds of the Malay “kompang” was heard signalling the start of the event.

Then came the exciting and rhythmic sounds of the Indian drums and finally the glorious Chinese lion dance.

The night continued as a spectacular line-up of performances were held one after another to entertain everyone present.

Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, who was also present, hoped that this beautiful festival can cheer up everyone during the dark times Malaysia is facing now.

Lim added that things will only get better by the year for Penangites and Penang.

Upon hearing this, the crowd broke out into a thunderous applause to support the Chief Minister.
