THE song Penang Hill, With You, written by 22-year-old Penangite Teh Xiao Wei, was announced today as the winner of the Penang Hill Songwriting Competition and is set to become an integral part of Penang Hill’s identity.

The song beautifully encapsulates this cherished landmark’s spirit and Penang’s vibrant landscapes.

As one of Penang’s most popular attractions, Penang Hill draws thousands of visitors daily, where lush greenery and panoramic views leave visitors in awe.

Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who attended the prize-giving ceremony, applauded Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) for its initiative to create a dedicated song for Penang Hill.

In addition, PHC has also released an official music video, featuring its staff members singing the song, rearranged by Cadenza Performing Arts Academy with support from young musicians in the Penang Youth Orchestra.

“The Penang Hill Corporation has collaborated with Cadenza Music & Performing Arts Academy to seek out local talents capable of musically expressing the unique beauty of Penang Hill,” Lim said during his speech.

“With over 40 submissions from diverse contestants, the competition highlighted remarkable talent. Six entries were selected as winners, with one being chosen as the song of Penang Hill.

“I am pleased to witness many aspiring talents showing interest in the creative economy industry. Penang is a tapestry of cultures and rich with a history of diverse communities. A musical score is incomplete without meaningful performers to convey its spirit.”

As the winner, Xiao Wei received RM3,000 while DSO, the runner-up, received RM1,500 and Lim Fang Cen, who came third, received RM800. All three also received a trophy and a certificate each.

Awards of excellence were presented to Swati Raveendhar, Mangroove Band, and Tan Kim Lai @ Leonard Tan.
