AVID hikers now have another attraction with the recent launch of Penang Hill’s latest facility, an 850m trail from the lower station up to the middle station.
Known as the ”Heritage Trail”, the abandoned old railway track built in 1897 by the British had previously been used as a walking trail by farmers and residents before it was upgraded.
The project took almost three months to complete at a cost of RM400,000.
“Besides being an escape from busy daily activities, the trail is an alternative route in case of emergencies or train service disruptions,” said Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari at the launch of the trail on Aug 16.
Meanwhile, at the launch, director of Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) Datuk Lee Kah Choon expressed his gratitude for the new attraction just about a month after Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng launched the elevated walkway at the upper station.
“I hope ‘The Peak of the Pearl’ will continue to draw more visitors and make a name as the top tourist spot in Malaysia,” added Lee.
Also present at the event was PHC general manager Dr Lawrence Khoo
