THE Penang government is planning to complete the Covid-19 screening of the foreign construction workers by the end of this week.
State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said about 7,000 foreign construction workers had undergone the screening last week.
It was reported that Penang has 11,861 foreign construction workers. It was also reported that from the 6,795 samples screened, 2,067 workers from the island and 301 from the mainland tested negative; while the rest were pending test results.
“We ensure that the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) is strictly complied.
“I urge everyone, including the construction workers, to maintain the highest compliance rate of 99%,” he told a press conference in Komtar today.
On a separate matter, Jagdeep said the Penang government has spent more than RM250 million from various state housing funds until May this year for the maintenance projects of public and private housing schemes in Penang.
“As for the maintenance projects under the Federal Government, we will monitor the applications that we have sent and approved by the Federal Government. This is to ensure that they are honoured and delivered,” he said.
Penang Housing Department senior principal assistant secretary Ainul Fadhilah Samsudi said there were 52 maintenance projects in Penang, amounting to RM20.76 million, approved by Housing and Local Government Ministry as of May this year.
