THE Penang Institute has been tasked to carry out its research on the proposal to create a special financial zone (SFZ) in Penang, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
“Although there were plans by the Federal Government to create an SFZ in Forest City, Johor, there were no further details yet so far.
“Hence, we let this proposal be discussed first as we have always welcomed any initiatives that benefit Penang.
“We should let the discussion to brainstorm any constructive ideas related to the SFZ proposal,” he said when asked by a journalist about the SFZ proposal at the sidelines of the Penang Pharmacists Convention at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.
When asked about the support by the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) on SFZ, Chow responded that any sectors or industries were free to discuss it.
“We need to be patient as the Federal Government has not even announced anything yet on the proposal to establish SFZ in Forest City, Johor,” he added.
