PENANG have added two more gold medals today in the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2018 – thanks to karate champs Ariana Lim Junyi and Ivan Oh Theng Wei, who won the Women’s Kata and Men’s Kata respectively.
Ariana got the better of Lim Hui Ling from Terengganu in the semi-final with a 5-0 win.
In the final, Ariana’s feat was remarkable as she defeated Vellcarollyne Agustine (Sabah) 5-0.
“I am very grateful to my coaches, National Sports Council of Malaysia, National Sports Institute of Malaysia and everyone who have helped me throughout my Sukma journey.
“I am proud to be able to contribute a gold medal for my beloved state,” she said today (Sept 15).
Oh also did well in the Men’s Kata final, defeating Abdul Rahim Shah Zulfaqqar (Pahang) 5-0.
Karateka Jessie Lim Lye See (Penang) took home a silver medal in the Women’s Kumite -45kg after she failed to beat Sri Kugasheni Muthamil Maran (Wilayah Persekutuan) in the final. Jessie lost 1-3.
Meanwhile, karateka Thayalan Selvarajan (Penang) bagged the bronze medal in the Men’s Kumite -75kg.
Nur Fatin Suhaimi, Nur Maisarah Mohd Jamil and Siti Asiah Zaini also made the state proud when they managed to bring home a silver medal in the petanque Women Triple event.
They lost to Johor 10-13 in the final.
Meanwhile in tenpin bowling, Anis Shazlin Zulkhisham, Kelly Lau Suet Kei, Melissa Khong Xia Yi, Nur Amirah Auni Azman, Nurul Nadia Mohamad Yaacob and Zaitun Faiqah Abu Bakar took home a silver medal for Penang in the Women Doubles event.
