THE Penang government has introduced a new website known as ‘Penang Travel Deals’ as part of its efforts to revive the state’s tourism industry that has been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Penang Travel Deals website is accessible at https://penangtraveldeals.com/

State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the website provided the best hotels and attraction deals in Penang.

“With the lifting of travel restrictions within the country, marketing and promotional efforts will be targeted towards domestic tourism.

“Hence, the featured promotions will mainly cater to the locals.

“The objective is to offer local travellers different experiences and substantial savings,” he told a press conference after the launching of the website at the St Giles Wembley Hotel in George Town today.

Also present were Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Penang chairman Khoo Boo Lim, Association of Tourist Attractions Penang (ATAP) chairman Ch’ng Huck Theng and Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan.

Yeoh said the website also served as an ideal platform for hoteliers and attraction places to advertise their ongoing promotions.

“Penang is ideal for domestic travellers who need a change of scenery or to escape the confines of their homes after interstate travel is allowed by the Federal Government.

“Thus, I urge local travellers to take advantage of the special offers and support our local tourism industry.

“PETACH’s marketing arm, PGT will undertake on advertising the site, especially via social media for public awareness,” he said.

He added that the first campaign via the website is called ‘Jom! Experience Penang’.

“There are currently 40 participating partners featured in the website.

“The public can also look forward to the unveiling of more campaigns and special tour packages via the Penang Travel Deals website soon, offering domestic tourists even more choices,” Yeoh said.

Khoo said hotels in Penang are offering value-for-money deals that benefit everyone, from solo to family travellers through the website.

“Some luxury hotels also are offering irresistible prices, so this is the chance to experience luxury at a fraction of the price.

“I will also encourage all hoteliers under our association to register themselves as participating partners.

“This is because some of them are not operating yet, so once their hotels are back in businesses, then I am sure they will participate in the campaign,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ch’ng commended the state government for coming up with such initiative and urged local travellers to come and visit Penang.

“With value-for-money deals on accommodations and attractions, coupled with Penang’s fantastic diversity in culture, heritage, arts, food as well as its natural surroundings of lovely sandy beaches and breathtaking hills, the offers are certainly not to be missed,” he added.
