DISCUSSIONS regarding Penang’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project are ongoing with the main contractor, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

“We are actively engaged in discussions with the main contractor and hope to finalise them as soon as possible.

“Following this, we will need to secure approval from the Ministry of Finance,” Loke told a press conference at The Light Hotel today.

Earlier in the day, Loke attended the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Head of Agreement (HOA) for the Kampung Manis ‘Rivanis’ project, a redevelopment initiative aimed at revitalising the neighbourhood.

Loke also noted that since the Federal Government has taken over the LRT project from the Penang government, specific procedures and protocols must be adhered to.

“These detailed discussions are crucial to ensure that the LRT alignments are comprehensively and thoughtfully planned,” he said.

Loke further added: “Once everything is finalised, we will make an official announcement and organise a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the project next year.”
