MARRIOTT International Inc. today marks a significant milestone with the grand opening of the Penang Marriott Complex, marking its 50th property in the country.
Located along Gurney Drive, this landmark development is the first in Malaysia to house three Marriott Bonvoy brands under one roof namely Penang Marriott Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments Penang, and Marriott Residences Penang.
The event, held at the Penang Marriott Hotel in Gurney Drive today, was also graced by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his consort Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Noor.
Marriott International president (Asia Pacific excluding China) Rajeev Menon in his statement said the Penang Marriott Complex, the first in the country to include three brands with the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio under one roof, is a fitting addition.
“We are excited to offer guests a signature blend of modern amenities and timeless charm, creating lasting memories in one of Malaysia’s most sought-after island destinations.

Situated along a prime, seafront location in George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site revered for its rich history and vibrant culture, Penang Marriott Complex seamlessly integrates the brand’s global standards of excellence with the unique culture of the region. This landmark project not only underscores Marriott’s strategic growth in Malaysia, but also reinforces the company’s dedication to sharing its legacy of wonderful hospitality and modern appeal with guests and its residence owners.
Also present during the ceremony today were Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng and former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, who is also the Air Putih assemblyman and Bagan MP.
Marriott International board chairman David Marriott described the Marriott International’s expansion in Penang aligns with the company’s broader growth trajectory in Southeast Asia.
“This is where the company continues to solidify its position as a leader in the hospitality sector, with Penang Marriott Complex set to become a defining feature of Penang’s hospitality landscape,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lim congratulates Marriott for this significant milestone.
