AS Chinese New Year approaches, the Penang Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) gears up for a vital role. They will work tirelessly to provide ambulance services for emergency cases throughout the state.
Aligned with Ops Selamat launched by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), MRCS will operate a 24-hour ambulance service. This initiative involves 200 members, including volunteers, ensuring round-the-clock assistance during the festivities.
The service will be accessible at four centres operated by MRCS, strategically located on the island, north Seberang Perai, south Seberang Perai, and central Seberang Perai.
Penang MRCS deputy chairman Datuk Loh Nam Hooi said that the service, starting on Feb 7 and ending on Feb 13, is a collaboration with PDRM, the Fire and Rescue Department, and government hospitals in the vicinity.
“Our MRCS members will work closely with government hospitals to ensure a smooth service delivery for emergency cases during this festive period.
“Before the patients are sent to the hospital for further treatment, our trained members will provide pre-hospital treatment in the ambulance,” Loh said in his speech during the launching ceremony of the 24-hour ambulance service by MRCS at Greatech Integration (M) Sdn Bhd in Batu Kawan today.
Earlier, Greatech announced the contribution of an ambulance (one unit) worth RM200,000 to assist MRCS in its cause to provide service for emergency cases.
Also, it was learned that the company has donated RM25,000 for the upcoming 24-hour ambulance service.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, present to grace the ceremony earlier, thanked Greatech for stepping in to assist MRCS in its service to the people during the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.
“As I have always said, the state government is grateful for the assistance by the private sector, non-governmental organisations, and other relevant bodies to address issues involving our community at large.
“Today’s programme is another good proof, and we hope to see a continued trend in this matter as we are determined to continue to provide the best of services for the people of Penang,” Chow said in his speech.
At the event, Greatech also announced several contributions to an NGO and two schools in the state.
Specifically, Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion received RM500,000 to assist them in their treatment of critical cancer patients, 13 units of Classroom Smart Board worth RM200,000 to SMJK Perempuan Cina, and RM200,000 to SJKC Aik Hua to help them in the construction of a digital library in the school.
Also present during the event were Greatech Technology Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tan Eng Kee, Seberang Jaya Hospital department head for trauma and emergency Dr Nor Azleen Ayob, Greatech chief operating officer Khor Lean Heng, and chief financial officer Koay Lin Lin.
