Penang Para Sukma squad sets ambitious target

THE Penang contingent is targeting 16 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals at the upcoming 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) in Sarawak.

 

The Para Sukma will take place from Sept 20 to 29, a month after Sukma.

 

Penang Youth and Sports Department (JSBNPP) director Mozakir Buyong Mokhtar described the 45 medals target as realistic based on the current performance of the athletes.

“A total of 83 state athletes will be competing in the Para Sukma which will be held in Kuching, Sarawak. In total, the Penang contingent will send 132 individuals, including 83 athletes and 49 officials.

“Our para-athletes have been training since early this year, and they are currently undergoing intensive preparations for the event,” Mozakir told Buletin Mutiara when contacted today.

According to Mozakir, the Penang contingent will participate in all 10 Para Sukma sports, namely athletics, badminton, swimming, table tennis, bowling, boccia, lawn bowls, powerlifting, archery and chess.

Mozakir also announced that the Penang para contingent will be led by the Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen as the Chef De Mission (CDM) with Mozakir himself as the Deputy Chef De Mission (DCDM).
