THE newly appointed Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership (2024-2026) aims to enhance cooperation among its component parties, champion the people’s agenda, and reinforce grassroots support ahead of the next general election.

Announcing the new lineup at the DAP headquarters in Rangoon Road today, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was confident in the team’s ability to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen party machinery, and navigate future political challenges.

“The new committee aligns with our aspirations to enhance governance, maintain stability, and strengthen our collaboration with Barisan Nasional (BN) under the Unity Government.

“We believe this political stability will enable us to continue reform efforts and foster a sustainable development in Penang,” he said.

Chow emphasised the importance of unity among PH component parties, namely, DAP, PKR, and Amanah – to ensure long-term progress for the state.

“We hope everyone plays their role in supporting a developing, inclusive, and progressive Penang,” he added.

When asked about efforts to attract Malay voters ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), Chow said the state and Federal governments are implementing various strategies to regain voter confidence and counter Opposition narratives.

“We are on the right trajectory, and the country’s investment record, as announced by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), reflects strong confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

Additionally, Penang PH also pledged to ensure the smooth execution of infrastructure projects, protect public welfare, and promote sustainable governance.

Chow also said that the newly appointed Penang PH leadership would serve until 2026 and would lead effectively if the next general election takes place.

The meeting held in a hybrid format (both physically and online) also saw each party sending 11 delegates, bringing the total number of members in the new PH state committee to 33.

“Due to time constraints, we were unable to hold it last year, leading to its postponement until today,” Chow explained.
