THE media’s vital role as a bridge between the Penang government and the public underscores its impact on fostering communication and transparency, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He commended the media for its dedication to informing the public, noting that it serves as one of the state’s most valuable partners.
“The media amplifies the voices of the people, bringing their perspectives and feedback to the state’s attention.
“This input is invaluable in our decision-making processes,” Chow said.
He expressed his hope for the continued collaboration between the media and the state, highlighting that a strong relationship between the two would contribute to Penang’s stability and prosperity.
“A cordial partnership between the state and the media is essential to shaping a bright future for Penang,” Chow added at the Penang Press Night Dinner in George Town today.
The event, jointly organised by the Penang Press Employees’ Cooperative Society Limited, the Penang Press Club, and the Journalists’ Union of North Malaya, celebrated the contributions of local media personnel.
Chow stressed the importance of transparency and integrity in journalism, which he believes are crucial for building a stronger future for Penang and the nation.
“The media has been instrumental in dispelling misinformation, and we greatly appreciate its role in ensuring that accurate information reaches the public,” he said.
In an era of advanced technology, Chow urged the media to prioritise accuracy in reporting to uphold public trust.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by media personnel, Chow noted that the industry’s workload has intensified due to workforce reductions, and he expressed appreciation for their sacrifices.
Guests at the dinner enjoyed a lavish meal and participated in a lucky draw, with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the evening.
Among the attendees were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, Journalists’ Union of North Malaya chairman Datuk Lean Yee Yong, Penang Press Employees’ Cooperative Society Limited chairman Lim Beng Poh, Consul of the People’s Republic of China in Penang Wu Tian Hao, and Penang Press Club life patron Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong, along with other prominent figures in the local press community.
Also present were Penang Press Employees’ Cooperative Society Limited executive advisor Wong Soon Eng, Penang Press Club affair advisor Neoh Chong Poh, Penang Press Club executive advisor Tan Hu Chuan, and Penang Press Club president Ang Tong Kai.
