THE well-being and interests of the people in Penang have been a priority for the Pakatan Harapan state government since it began administrating in 2008, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Speaking to the Hindu community at Kuil Sri Maha Mariamman at Ladang Simpang in Simpang Ampat, Chow highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to support its residents.

“In terms of education, the state has been providing funds to schools, including Tamil schools.

“We understand the importance of education, which is why we have assisted these schools,” he said.

He also assured the community that places of worship in Penang can operate without issues, unlike in other states where some places of worship have been demolished.

“In Penang, we believe amicable solutions can be achieved through negotiations and mutual understanding.

“We hope people can live harmoniously in society regardless of race and religion,” he said.

Chow mentioned that the state has attracted numerous investments, particularly in Seberang Perai, which can spur growth for the state.

He also noted the Federal Government’s allocation of RM4 billion to address the needs of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) in Perak, which will help fulfil water needs in Penang.

“These efforts demonstrate our commitment to taking the people’s interests into account,” he said.

Reflecting on his 38-year political career, Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, expressed hope that the people of Sungai Bakap would support the unity government’s candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin, also known as ‘Cikgu Joohari.’

“I believe a vote for him is a vote for my administration and the unity government at the Federal level,” he said.

Chow also mentioned that the unity government component parties’ election machinery has consistently supported the campaign team.

“So far, we have garnered positive support on the ground, and we need to keep the momentum going,” he said.
