PENANG continues to demonstrate its excellence as the leading contributor to the nation.

In March, Penang led the nation’s exports, reaching RM41.152 billion, commanding a remarkable 32% share of the nation’s total exports.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the achievement underscored Penang’s ability to outperform states twice its size, showcasing its formidable economic prowess.

Today, he participated in a luncheon dialogue hosted by the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Penang, held at the Lexis Suites in Teluk Kumbar.

Chow further highlighted Penang’s continued dominance in 2023, retaining its top position with exports totalling RM435 billion, constituting 31% of the nation’s total exports.

“Penang is dedicated to advancing its competitive edge while placing a strong emphasis on nurturing talent for burgeoning high-tech industries.

“Through a series of strategic initiatives, the state actively fosters a robust STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) talent pool to address the escalating needs of the sector.

“Fostering ongoing collaboration between the state and industry stakeholders remains paramount for sustained growth and innovation.

“Forums such as our luncheon dialogue today facilitate vital public-private conversations, enabling us to stay abreast of the latest industry trends and collaborate on developments,” Chow added.

He highlighted the state government’s proactive approach in collaborating with government agencies and academia to synergise capabilities, thereby fostering comprehensive industry development.

During the dialogue session, Chow revealed positive news regarding the Penang-Perak water deal.

He announced that during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent visit to Penang, it was confirmed that Perak had agreed to supply water to Penang.

Furthermore, Chow stressed the importance of various elements such as robust connectivity, abundant talent supply, reliable infrastructure, efficient transportation systems, and other factors crucial for maintaining competitiveness.

MICCI northern branch chairman Datuk Brian Tan Guan Hooi affirmed the organisation’s commitment to collaborate closely with the Penang government and relevant stakeholders in enhancing the prosperity of Penang.
