THE Penang Legislative Assembly sitting will take place on April 17 and the duration will be shortened to half a day.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state executive council has agreed to hold the session on April 17.

“We will proceed with the sitting and adhere to the precautionary measures even if the movement control order (MCO) is lifted,” he told the public via Facebook Live on his Facebook page today.

Chow said that the State Legislative Assembly sitting must be held within six months (after the last sitting was held), in accordance with the state’s constitutional requirements.

He said that he would be paying an official visit to the Penang Governor’s residence soon to inform the Governor on the matter.

“We have consulted State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang and will proceed as follows.

“The duration of the sitting will be shortened to half a day and without the usual inspection of the guard of honour.

“The session will begin with an address by the Penang Governor, followed by the state Opposition Leader.

“After that, I will be presenting the Chief Ministerial statement. Oral questions raised by the state assemblymen will be answered by way of written replies.

“The sitting will be telecasted live,” Chow said.

He added that preventive measures such as social distancing, body temperature screening and disinfection work would be taken throughout the sitting.

“It will be held in Dewan Sri Pinang. Medical personnel will also be stationed at the premises,” he said.
