PENANG men’s sepak takraw regu team continued its winning streak in the Sukma (Malaysia Games) 2022 after edging Perlis 2-0 in the quarter-finals today.
They will now face either Perak or Kelantan in the semi-finals at Dewan Sri Sarjana, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in Kajang tomorrow at 9am. Their opponents will be known later in the evening today.
The other semi-final match will be contested between Terengganu and Selangor or the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (FT).
After a dominant performance in the group matches by beating Kedah and Kuala Lumpur (FT) 3-0 each yesterday, the Penang team maintained its momentum against the Perlis side.
With thunderous support from their fans, the Penang players raised their tempo and managed to see off Perlis 21-9 and 21-11 in one regu, and 21-3 and 21-17 in another regu.
Its team manager Ismadi Abu Bakar was pleased as punch with his boys’ performances throughout the event.
“Our team shows a strong character in beating Perlis and we look forward to our semi-finals tomorrow.
“We are ready to face our opponents, regardless of any team.
“We will do our best to reach the final,” he told Buletin Mutiara when met at Dewan Sri Sarjana, UNITEN in Kajang this morning.
