PENANG’S economy and its bilateral trade ties with China are set to grow further through the OCTF 2022 (Penang) Smart Manufacturing & Digital Industrial Exhibition held in Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present for the opening ceremony, said that the three-day fair beginning today until this Thursday (June 16) was aimed at creating economic opportunities and trade cooperation between both sides.
“The exhibition has been held for the third time in the country as the two earlier exhibitions were held in Melaka previously.
“It has been moved to Penang this year in a bid to enhance the state’s economic recovery, while fostering ties between the state with Shenzhen and Shantou in China.
“This can further help to develop the country’s economy as well as gather more than 80 Chinese enterprises in the exhibition.
“The fair also provides a platform for the young people to start their businesses. Talks on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Tik Tok will take place as well,” he said in his speech before gracing the OCTF 2022 (Penang) Smart Manufacturing & Digital Industrial Exhibition.
The main organiser for the event were China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong Committee, Malaysia Teochew Chamber of Commerce and Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Think Tank, while its co-organisers were Canton Chamber of Commerce Malaysia, Malaysia China Digital Commerce Association, Digital Beez (M) Sdn Bhd and The Entrepreneur.
Its planning and coordinators also include Shenzhen OCTF Investment and Management Co. Ltd and Guangdong Guangzhan International Exhibitions Co. Ltd.
Chow praised the organisers for ensuring the event’s success despite facing various obstacles.
Malaysia Teochew Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Goh Wan Sing hoped the exhibition would benefit the state.
“It will be an eye-opener while spurring Penang’s economy,” he said.
CCPIT Guangdong Committee chairman Fang Lixu, who was present virtually, said Penang would gain much from the event.
“It is an opportunity to meet with leading China manufacturers,” he said.
The exhibition is from 10am to 6pm.
Among those present were Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, State Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, Shantou Municipal Committee secretary Wen Shanbin and Chinese Consul General in Penang Lu Shiwei, who were both present virtually, and other distinguished guests.
