THE residents and state assemblyman of Bayan Lepas have appealed to the Penang government to consider relocating the proposed workers’ dormitory projects away from the area.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz said that the residents of Sungai Batu and Teluk Kumbar in Bayan Lepas had presented him their petitions recently to be handed over to the Penang government.

“We appeal to the state government to consider relocating the proposed workers’ dormitory projects away from Sungai Batu and Teluk Kumbar in Bayan Lepas.

“I feel that the most important asset for the state is the citizens.

“The citizens can join hands and contribute to the state’s economy if they are defended (terbela),” he said before presenting the petitions to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office this morning.

Chow thanked Azrul Mahathir and the residents for their concerns towards the projects.

“The Penang government accepts the petitions and will look into the residents’ propositions more holistically.

“I will pass the petitions to the state executive council member in charge, the state planning agency and the Penang Island City Council for them to go through contents thoroughly,” Chow added.
