PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has reiterated the stand taken by the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council, that all states that are under the Pakatan Harapan administration would not dissolve their state assemblies should a snap election is called.
The decision was made on July 6.
Responding to a question by a journalist, Chow said that calling for a snap election now would be unnecessary.
“It can lead to negative economic impact. Moreover, the current term has just entered its second year.
“It is too early to have talks about dissolving the state assembly, unless there are ‘special’ circumstances like what happened in Sabah. We will monitor the matter closely and prepare for any eventuality,” Chow said.
Chow said that the possibility of a snap election could not be ruled out due to the slim majority that the Perikatan Nasional Government currently possesses.
“There are other important matters that we need to look at, such as to safeguard our country’s economic status,” Chow added.
