PENANG aims to collaborate with travel agents in Chongqing, China, to boost tourism exchanges between the two regions, announced state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.

Acknowledging the significant ties and strong bonds between Penang and Chongqing, Wong underscored the importance of promoting attractions in both destinations.

“Our friendship is particularly meaningful as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations,” Wong remarked.

“This partnership opens a new chapter in tourism collaboration following our successful roadshow in Chongqing, which generated overwhelming interest in Penang.”

Wong made these comments at a signing ceremony between Chongqing Wenhua International Travel Service, Chongqing Leyou International Ctrip International Travel Agency, and Hubei China Travel Service Holidays.

Direct charter flights between Chongqing and Penang, operated by Firefly Airlines and facilitated by Chongqing Wenhua Tourism Group, began on July 23 this year.

“This has strengthened the travel industry for both sides and presents a great opportunity for Penang to expand its presence in Chongqing,” Wong added, noting high interest in Penang’s diverse food culture and multicultural community.

During the ceremony, Wong praised the partnership for attracting more Chinese tourists to Penang.

Chongqing Wenhua Tourism Group chairman Tu Ming praised Penang’s efforts in bringing Chongqing tourists to the state.
