Penang to use Penang2030 vision as blueprint to address aging society’s challenges

THE Penang government will be using the Penang2030 vision as a blueprint to address the challenges faced by the aging society in the state.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang2030 vision ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’ would be instrumental in rectifying issues concerning the senior citizens.

“We will be focusing on families, as building strong family networks will help to build a strong society.

“In a few years, we will be seeing an increase in the number of people above 60 years old – about 10 to 15% in Malaysia. The state government is coming up with various policies and programmes to assist the aging society,” Chow said during Rose Charities Malaysia Christmas Reunion lunch at G-Hotel today.

Chow also lauded Rose Charities Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Cheah for being concerned about the aging population in the state and country.

On a separate note, Chow thanked the generous individuals, community and organisations for their assistance during the Covid-19 crisis.

“It has been a difficult year for everyone. Nevertheless, we still see many associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate companies and individuals coming forward to assist the Penang government in helping the community,” he said.

Chow also thanked Rose Charities Malaysia for bringing cheers to seven charity homes in Penang; and for contributing essential food items to the Penang government, which were distributed to the people affected by the pandemic.

“It is important for us to bring cheers to the needy, even more so during this Christmas season which signifies a time of hope, goodwill, love and togetherness.
