NOTHING political but purely a centre of information and community-building, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow after launching the latest Penang2030 centre at the Air Putih state constituency today.
Chow said the core purpose of a Penang2030 centre is to inform the public about the state government’s policies, organise community-based activities at the grassroots level, encourage youth participation and others.
“As state government employees, it is our duty to ensure the public is well aware of the happenings in the state, especially policies, current and future development plans and many other issues too.
“The Penang2030 vision encompasses many different types of categories, and we cannot just let the vision revolve only around Komtar among the government employees.
“We need to engage and encourage participation by the public too.
“Also, these centres are not politically-driven but purely to disseminate relevant information and organising activities to cultivate a sense of belonging among the people towards this vision,” Chow said in his speech during the ceremony earlier at Jalan Sekolah La Salle in George Town.
According to Chow, the new centre in Air Putih makes it the 22nd in the state.
The state is in pursuit of setting up a centre at each of the 40 state constituencies.
During his speech, Chow also added that each centre would receive an allocation of RM2,000 monthly.
Meanwhile, Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng urged everyone to support the establishment of the Penang2030 centres across the state for a better future for all, especially the young people.
“This initiative (Penang2030) is our chief minister’s brainchild, and it deserves all the support and participation at the grassroots level,” Lim said in his speech.
Also present during the ceremony were Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng and former Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai.
