A TOTAL of 280 projects aligned with the strategic initiatives of the Penang2030 vision have reached completion, culminating in an impressive overall progress rate of 68% to date.
During this morning’s Penang2030 workshop at G Hotel, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow remarked on the positive growth in progress compared to last year.
However, he highlighted the continuous necessity for concerted efforts and active participation to ensure the realisation of all projects by the target year of 2030.
Furthermore, during his address, Chow reiterated the importance of unwavering commitment from fellow state representatives in aiding the government’s efforts to remain steadfastly focused on realising the Penang2030 vision within the designated timeframe.
Chow, alongside his team of state executive councillors, champion officers, state assemblymen, and heads of departments representing various state government agencies, actively engaged in presentations.
These presentations provided detailed insights into their respective portfolios and highlighted the progress made so far.
In essence, the four strategic initiatives are categorised into four themes: Theme A focuses on increasing liveability to enhance the quality of life; Theme B aims to upgrade the economy to raise household incomes; Theme C emphasises empowering people to strengthen civic participation and Theme D prioritises investment in the built environment to improve resilience.
Under Theme A, state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu delivered a thorough update on the state’s advancement towards completing 220,000 affordable housing projects by 2030.
As of April 30, a total of 160,744 units were either completed or in various stages of construction, marking an impressive overall progress rate of 73%.
“We aimed to benefit 3,000 families through urban regeneration housing schemes in the state. Remarkably, we have far exceeded this goal, with a substantial margin of 6,021 units achieved as of April 30.
“In the realm of Rent-to-Own units, out of our target of 22,000 units, the state government has made 4,544 units available thus far, representing a completion rate of 20%,” he said.
The session was then followed by presentations by other state representatives.
