Penang’s AI Education Hub a leap forward in artificial intelligence learning

THE newly inaugurated AI Education Hub at Tech Dome Penang is set to be a transformative force in artificial intelligence (AI) education, designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of younger and future generations.

 

This milestone was achieved through the robust collaboration of the Penang government, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), and members of the AI Education Consortium.

 

The AI Education Consortium includes 13 distinguished members: the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Penang branch), IEM eETD (Electronics Engineering Technical Division), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Penang Joint Chapter, the Technological Association Malaysia (TAM) Penang branch, Universiti Teknologi Mara Pulau Pinang, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Penang Skills Development Centre, Forward College, INTI International College Penang, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, TAR UMT Penang branch, and AIMST University.

Key industry players, sponsors, and supporters such as 88 Captains, Intel Malaysia, iKEY Technology, and Cytron Technologies were instrumental in equipping the hub.

 

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo emphasised that the establishment of the AI Education Hub marks a significant advancement in Penang’s educational landscape.

 

“This initiative will provide high-quality education for our youth, thanks to the combined efforts of all involved,” he said during the hub’s launch ceremony.

“Tech Dome Penang has been dedicated to advancing AI education since 2022, implementing various programs, workshops, and initiatives to inspire and innovate among students. This year, in collaboration with 88 Captains, we launched the Artificial Intelligence for School (AI4S) programme, with strategic partners including Intel Malaysia, OCBC Bank, Penang STEM, Microsoft, SNS Network, and YTL Communications.

 

“These efforts align with the state government’s Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation,’” he added.

 

Mosti Minister Chang Lih Kang highlighted the hub’s pivotal role in advancing knowledge and education in AI among students, educators, and the community.

“With rapid technological progress, it is essential to equip the younger generation with the requisite knowledge and skills. The AI Education Hub will be a catalyst for talent development and help position Malaysia as a leading AI hub in the region,” he remarked.

 

The launch ceremony was attended by Mosti deputy chief secretary Ruziah Shafei, Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi, Penang STEM chief executive officer Datuk Richard Chung, 88 Captains chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ooi Eng Hock, Intel Corporation senior director Dr Ngoo Seong Boon, and M Summit Group managing director Datuk Albert Moh.
