THE much-anticipated Penang state-level Christmas celebration will make its debut in Seberang Perai on Dec 7.
The iconic event will take place at Dataran Pemuda Merdeka, Butterworth, and is scheduled to run from 5pm to 10pm.
Penang Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Religious Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim announced the details, anticipating a large turnout for this annual celebration.
“This move reflects the state’s commitment to balanced development across Penang island and Seberang Perai.
“Seberang Perai has become a vibrant hub, hosting notable events like the recently concluded Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) and the upcoming Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM).
“Christmas is a time of togetherness, joy, and unity, and this year’s celebration aims to bring people of different faiths together in a spirit of harmony,” Lim said during a press conference today.
She also highlighted the importance of Seberang Perai’s growth to the state’s overall development, citing plans to establish an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Butterworth.
Bagan Dalam assemblyman K. Kumaran welcomed the state’s decision to host the event in his constituency and pledged his support for the festivities.
Also present at the press conference were Penang State Christmas Celebration organising chairman Bishop Stephen Soe, Christian Federation of Malaysia Penang Chapter Pastor Liew Yean Huat, and Harmonico general manager Paul Au.
