IN a move to bolster international collaboration, the Argentine Ambassador to Malaysia Marta Laura Gabrieloni met with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to discuss strengthening ties between Argentina and Malaysia, emphasising expanding cooperation in Penang.
The Ambassador expressed a keen interest in developing partnerships that leverage the expertise of both regions, particularly in critical areas such as agriculture, mining, waste management and water treatment.
The exchange of knowledge and best practices in these fields is seen as a path toward achieving mutually beneficial outcomes, fostering innovation, and building sustainable solutions that address shared challenges.
Both leaders underscored their commitment to exploring new avenues of collaboration that can enhance economic, environmental, and social well-being.
Marta was accompanied by Argentine Embassy first secretary Mariano Higa during the courtesy call on the Penang Chief Minister at Komtar today.
Chow appreciated Marta’s interest in exploring further collaboration, particularly with Penang.
“Penang, a small yet dynamic state in Malaysia, continues to thrive by relying on a robust combination of investment, tourism, and trade.
“Over the years, this strategic blend has positioned Penang as a powerhouse for economic growth, underpinned by the strength of its manufacturing, property, and services sectors.
“As a hub for global investment, Penang has consistently attracted attention and capital worldwide, further bolstering its economic resilience and development.
“The steady growth and progress of Penang owe much to the foresight and strategic decisions made by past leaders who charted a forward-thinking path for the state.
“By emphasising key sectors such as manufacturing and technology-driven industries, they laid a strong foundation for sustainable growth. These sectors have not only contributed significantly to the state’s economy but have also established Penang as a leader in innovation and industrial advancement,” he told the Argentine Ambassador.
Chow added that digitalisation stands as a crucial pillar in Penang’s strategy to drive the state and the nation forward.
“Recognising the transformative power of digital technology, Penang has actively encouraged its people and businesses to adopt and adapt to digital solutions.
“This commitment is evident in initiatives to modernise industries, improve government services, and foster tech-driven growth.
“While there is still much ground to cover, the progress achieved so far, given Penang’s size, is commendable. The state’s efforts to build a digital-savvy economy ensure it remains competitive in an increasingly interconnected world,” he mentioned.
Chow emphasised the critical role of the Federal Government in Penang’s growth trajectory, noting that taxes collected in the state are directed to Federal coffers and subsequently redistributed to support essential infrastructure and development initiatives.
“Collaboration with the Federal Government ensures that Penang can access the resources and support needed for sustained progress.
“At the same time, the state is actively partnering with the private sector to drive economic initiatives and innovative projects. By taking on the role of a facilitator, Penang creates an environment conducive to investment, fostering collaboration that benefits the community and strengthens its economic resilience,” he concluded.
