PENANG, renowned for its vibrant traditions, rich cultural heritage, and lively festivities, warmly invites visitors to celebrate and immerse themselves in the Chinese New Year 2025 spirit.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai highlighted the major programmes taking place on Penang island and in Seberang Perai, which run from Dec 13 last year to Feb 14 this year.
He emphasised that Penang offers something unique every single day.
“We ensure the celebration never stops,” he said.
“Chinese New Year (CNY) in Penang is more than just a celebration; it is about immersing yourself in the very soul of our city.
“George Town, Kek Lok Si in Air Itam, Butterworth, and Bukit Mertajam have become favourite destinations for families and friends to gather and create cherished memories, with thousands of vibrant Chinese lanterns illuminating the streets in a breathtaking display.
“Exciting events await, including the grand Penang Miao Hui, which celebrates the state’s rich history and traditions; the Thnee Kong Seh ceremony, honouring the Jade Emperor’s birthday; and Chap Goh Meh, the vibrant 15th-night celebration marking the close of CNY festivities.
“This year, the state is organising the Chap Goh Meh celebration which coincides with Valentine’s Day on Feb 14. This creates a unique double celebration.
“Where East meets West and tradition blends seamlessly with modernity, Penang offers a joyful fusion of cultures. Whether you are celebrating love or seeking new connections, there is no better place to be on this special day,” Hon Wai told a media conference at his office in Komtar today.
He pointed out that Thaipusam coincides with the CNY celebration period.
“This highlights Malaysia’s multicultural harmony, showcasing the unity and diversity that define our community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) has also launched the Penang Travel Deals, offering over 70 exclusive CNY-themed promotions.
