PENANG, often hailed as the Silicon Valley of the East, gained recognition as a significant manufacturing hub in Asia.
With its strategic location, skilled workforce, and robust infrastructure, Penang has attracted global giants propelling Malaysia’s industrial sector to new heights.
Now, as Penang continues to thrive, the Philippines eyes a collaborative venture to further grow the industry together.
The Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Malaysia Maria Angela A. Ponce expressed the country’s interest in collaborating with Penang in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries during a courtesy visit at G Hotel today.
“The Philippines, with its burgeoning semiconductor industry possesses immense potential.
“We hope to strengthen our collaborations and we look forward to working with the states in Malaysia. Penang is our priority,” she said.
Maria Angela added that the Philippines stands as a formidable force in both the manufacturing and household services sectors.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government’s strategic initiatives, coupled with Malaysia’s investor-friendly policies, have fostered an environment conducive to business growth.
“The Philippines possesses the potential to complement Penang’s supply chain ecosystem,” he said.
The 30-minute meeting also touched on the state’s Penang2030 vision and the roles of George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) in safeguarding and protecting the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site.
Also present were the vice-consul Patricia Anne Laggui, labour attaché Teresa Lourdes Pimentel, and commercial attaché Norjamin Delos Reyes.
