A PROMINENT Penang-based company, Teo Guan Lee Corporation Berhad (TGL Corp), celebrated its 90th anniversary with a grand event at G Hotel Gurney in George Town this evening.
It was attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who commended the company’s remarkable legacy.
In his congratulatory address, Chow highlighted TGL Corp’s significant contributions to the apparel industry.
“Teo Guan Lee began as a modest trading business in 1934, founded by a young migrant from China. Over the decades, it has evolved into a major player in the apparel sector and is now a listed entity on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, managed by the family’s third generation,” he said.
Chow praised the company’s role as a key distributor of branded and licensed children’s apparel and footwear, with well-known brands such as KikiLala and Kiko present in major departmental stores across the nation.
“These brands have become household names, reflecting Teo Guan Lee’s dedication to quality and reliability,” Chow added.
He also acknowledged the company’s commitment to the community, noting that TGL Corp’s products have brought peace of mind to parents seeking trusted clothing and footwear for their children.
“Teo Guan Lee’s dedication to quality has strengthened its bond with the community,” he said.
Chow recognised TGL Corp’s economic contributions, with a workforce of over 700 employees in Penang.
“This has had a positive impact on local livelihoods,” he added, encouraging TGL Corp to continue building on its legacy.
“Congratulations to TGL Corp and its entire team on reaching this impressive milestone. With the dedication of your management and employees, I am confident you will achieve even greater success,” Chow said.
TGL Corp executive chairman Toh Kian Beng shared insights into the company’s journey, emphasising perseverance, core values, and family unity as key to its enduring success.
“The trust, support, and unity within our family have helped us persevere and build Teo Guan Lee over the years. Looking ahead, with the rise of digitalisation and changing consumer preferences, we must continue innovating to remain competitive,” she stated.
Kian Beng also expressed gratitude to TGL Corp’s employees and partners, crediting them for the company’s achievements.
“Our accomplishments are a testament to our employees’ commitment, our customers’ trust, and our partners’ unwavering support. Thank you for helping Teo Guan Lee reach this milestone,” Kian Beng said.
The event was also attended by TGL Corp managing director Toh Choon Keat and executive director Toh Choon Guan.
