FIVE-STAR boutique hotel, JdV by Hyatt, and four-star Galaxy Minyoun Penang The Light City Hotel are poised to offer travellers a unique and vibrant hospitality experience upon their completion.

Both hotels will be integral parts of The Light City’s 34-storey mixed-use development, which also includes office spaces and a variety of shared amenities, such as meeting and event venues, restaurants, and leisure facilities.

JdV by Hyatt will span six floors, featuring 156 rooms, while the Galaxy Minyoun Penang The Light City Hotel will occupy nine floors, with 303 rooms.

According to IJM Corporation Berhad managing director and Group chief executive officer Lee Chun Fai, JdV by Hyatt marks its debut in both Penang and Malaysia, while Galaxy Minyoun Penang The Light City Hotel ventures into Southeast Asia for the first time.

“We are thrilled to welcome these two world-class hotels to The Light City.

“These hotels will enhance our hospitality offerings and further establish Penang as a premier destination for both business and leisure travelers,” Lee said during the signing ceremony between IJM Perennial Development and its strategic partners today.

The ceremony took place at the nearly completed Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC), which is scheduled for completion in Q2 next year.

IJM Perennial Development, a joint-venture (JV) between IJM Corporation Berhad (IJM) and Perennial Holdings Private Limited (Perennial Holdings), is set to elevate its flagship mixed-use development through a series of transformative collaborations, bringing integrated infrastructure and world-class hospitality to this landmark project.

Three agreements were signed with renowned industry players: a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 5G-ready infrastructure, a hotel franchise agreement, and a hotel management agreement.

The MoU sees IJM Perennial Development partnering with leading telecommunications providers, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd and GlobalComm Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, to introduce cutting-edge connectivity and smart city technology, transforming The Light City into a future-ready community.

Additionally, IJM Perennial Development secured a hotel franchise agreement with Hyatt International – Asia Pacific to introduce the JdV by Hyatt brand to The Light City.

Lastly, a hotel management agreement with Galaxy Minyoun Hotel will bring this reputable Chinese hotel brand to The Light City.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed his enthusiasm for this significant milestone.

“This achievement aligns seamlessly with our Penang2030 vision, a goal that cannot be realised in isolation.

“Attaining this ambitious vision requires a collaborative, whole-of-nation approach, engaging Federal and state agencies, private enterprises, and the broader community.

“I am delighted that today’s signing exemplifies the power of private-public sector collaboration in pursuing a shared vision.

“Today, we witness the convergence of visionary partners – IJM Perennial Development, the master developer of The Light City, along with Maxis and GlobalComm – who will play a crucial role in bringing cutting-edge connectivity and smart city technology to this transformative project.

“We also warmly welcome JdV by Hyatt to Penang, marking its debut in our state. We hope this is just the beginning, with more such esteemed brands to follow, further enhancing our hospitality landscape.

“The role of Galaxy Minyoun in maintaining exceptional hotel services will be key to this elevation,” Chow said.
