CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow spent about half of his day with BBK Network media in Penang recently.
During his almost six-hour schedule, Chow took the media, hosted by Lucas Lee and Hoi Kah Mun, on a tour around the state.
Their first stop was at Fort Cornwallis, a popular tourist attraction in the state.
Chow explained to the media the state’s initiative to restore the site, which includes reinstating the over-a-century moat under the North Seafront Master Plan.
This restoration project is being undertaken by the George Town Conservation and Development Corporation (GTCDC), a tripartite alliance consisting of the Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI), Think City Sdn Bhd, and Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
The Fort Cornwallis restoration project is expected to be completed by 2025.
Chow and his entourage then visited the Bukit Kukus paired road project in Paya Terubong, which has helped reduce traffic congestion by 30% in the area.
Chow stated that Penang is committed to improving its transportation network in the future.
In Seberang Perai, Chow stopped at the Batu Kawan Industrial Park (BKIP) and shared Penang’s vision for developing the area.
“We need more talents in the state, especially as the region moves towards digitalisation and Industry Revolution 4.0,” he said.
Chow also visited Mak Mandin, where he highlighted the completed flood mitigation project that has reduced long-standing flood issues in the area.
“The project has greatly benefited the low-lying residents in the area.”
Finally, at his last stop in Pinang Tunggal, Kepala Batas, Chow showcased the cultural diversity and harmonious society that is practised in the community.
Overall, the tour provided valuable insights into Penang’s initiatives and developments, showcasing the state’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and preserving its cultural heritage.
