THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has adopted an Outdoor Residual Spraying (ORS) technique in the Pengkalan Kota constituency to address the alarming rise in dengue cases.
In collaboration with the state Health Department, Pengkalan Kota in George Town is the first state constituency to adopt this ORS method as part of a pilot project by the local authorities.
Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng praised the initiative, noting its effectiveness in preventing dengue cases.
“I have been informed that this method is effective in controlling vectors. The health personnel will spray insecticide during the operation.
“So far, eight blocks of flats in the Macallum neighbourhood have been covered,” he said during a dengue prevention campaign at Lintang Macallum neighbourhood on Saturday.
Wong highlighted the importance of keeping a clean neighbourhood to prevent the rise in dengue cases.
‘We need to be vigilant and take care of our environment,” he said.
MBPP councillor Tan Soo Siang thanked the Local Government Ministry for allocating the funds for such a campaign.
“This is a good initiative, and we hope to educate the public on the importance of a clean neighbourhood,” she said.
