MORE than 200 individuals participated in the blood donation programme organised by the Perai constituency service centre at Chai Leng Park multipurpose hall.
The one-day programme, held yesterday, was in collaboration with St John Ambulance Malaysia, Persatuan Penderma Darah SPU, Komuniti Madani, Perai district health office and MPKKs (Village Community Management Councils) within the Perai constituency.
Apart from blood donation activities, the event offered free health check-ups, including complimentary cholesterol and blood sugar screenings. There were also a colouring contest and a bonsai tree exhibition.
Perai constituency service centre manager Mohan Ramasamy said the blood donation programme is held every three months in the Perai constituency.
“This initiative aims to encourage local and nearby residents to donate blood.
“Donating blood is important as it can save many lives, which is why we promote frequent donations.
“Through this programme, we aim to raise their awareness about the importance of blood donation.
“The response is excellent so far, as we typically collect around 120 bags of blood every time we organise the blood donation programme here,” Mohan told Buletin Mutiara during the event.
Also present were Chai Leng Park MPKK chairman Datuk Ng Hooi Lai and Taman Inderawasih MPKK secretary Jerry Leong.
