THE ‘Mid-Autumn Festival,’ locally known as ‘Pesta Tanglung,’ is a traditional celebration cherished by the Chinese community, symbolising reunion and togetherness.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow highlighted this while attending the ‘Pesta Tanglung’ today, jointly organised by the Persatuan Kebajikan Aktif Pulau Pinang and the Dewan Perhimpunan Cina Pulau Pinang Parlimen Batu Kawan at Dewan Perkampungan Serbaguna in Juru.
Chow noted that the celebration in Juru has now become one of the neighbourhood’s annual highlights.
“As the MP for this constituency, I am glad to see many local organisations voluntarily organising cultural and welfare activities that enhance community harmony and foster unity among all races.
“Batu Kawan has a strong and active community spirit.
“In just the past few months, several cultural events have been held, each attracting thousands of participants,” he added.
Chow also expressed pride in the youth driving these activities, as well as the district’s volunteer fire brigade, which plays a crucial role in responding to emergencies and assisting those in need.
“I am grateful for the efforts of various organisations, including temple groups, that unite the people and serve as a bridge between the government and the community,” he said.
Chow added that Seberang Perai is a key area for Penang’s future development, particularly in Batu Kawan, where many businesses have set up operations, leading to rapid growth in the region.
In a separate matter, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met) has reported that Penang will experience strong winds and heavy rain over the next few days.
With regard to this, Chow urged Penangites, including parents, schools, and organisations, to stay alert and take preventive measures to ensure safety.
He also mentioned that the flood action centre in Seberang Perai has already been activated, with the State Natural Disaster Management Unit set to begin operations tomorrow morning to monitor and assess the situation across Penang, ensuring the safety of the people.
